"We'd like to thank..." - Brighton & Hove 10:10 an award winning sKTP partnership

Brighton and Hove 10:10′s partnership with the University of Brighton was recognised at the 2011 Enterprise Awards, where they scooped the ‘Enterprising Partnership in the Third Sector Award’. Presented by Matt O’Connor (the brains behind ‘Baby Gaga’ breast milk ice cream), the award acknowledged the all inclusive and collaborative approach of the campaign.

The evening was kicked off by Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Business and Marketing, Colin Monk, who highlighted the great work Profitnet are doing with SMEs (a group that 10:10 supported last year). The Ice Creamist, Matt O’Connor, then gave a whirlwind tour of the ground breaking campaigns he’s been involved in. “Who’s ready to get arrested today” was the call to action as his super hero clad Fathers-4-Justice team scaled Buckingham Palace. The Brighton and Hove 10:10 team’s minds were whirring!

Prizes were awarded for students and alumni, with some great ideas receiving recognition. One product that caught the attention of the 10:10 team was David Ferguson’s Loft Storage Stilts, which provide more storage space and increase insulation. The product is designed to allow households to fit thick insulation without losing loft storage space, so has obvious links with 10:10. Keep an eye out for this product in the future.

The Enterprising Partnership award was next, where Brighton and Hove 10:10′s Zoe Osmond, James Grugeon and Tom Chute were on hand to collect the prize.

Every step of the campaign has been supported by the University of Brighton, from initial sign up to recruiting a project manager through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. Students and staff alike have taken up the 10:10 challenge, with hundreds of students spotting the financial benefits of reducing energy at home and staff linking the campaign to lectures and projects. Here are some of the ways the partnership has worked;
  • The university has itself set bold emissions reduction targets and cites 10:10 as a way of helping to hit them.
  • Students have volunteered for the campaign
  • Events have been run in partnership including our birthday and Green Week
  • Promotions have been run through internal communications
  • 10:10 has spoken at lectures and worked on training projects
So a big thank you to the University of Brighton for putting on a great evening and congratulations to everyone involved in the partnership with Brighton and Hove 10:10.
